On Sunday, 09 th January 2022, the RCMDO (Rwanda Christian Medical and Dental Organization) has concluded its medical camp of providing free medical services to the community as part of its mission to spread the Gospel through the provision of good health care to all people. The event, which started on Thursday, 06 th January 2022, took place at Gikomero Health Center in Gasabo District, and attended by different medical doctors (general practitioners) and a variety of specialists including surgeons, gynecologists, internists, pediatricians, dental surgeons, psychiatrists, public health specialists and others who are all members of the RCMDO (Rwanda Christian Medical and Dental Organization). In addition, medical students who are members of CMSF (Christian Medical Students Fellowship) participated as well. About 852 patients were consulted, treated and given
medications for free. In addition, more than 1000 people were educated about different health topics like NCDs (Non-communicable diseases awareness), HIV prevention, Breast cancer and cervical cancer awareness, COVID-19 prevention, malnutrition, malaria and mental health awareness. It was also a good evangelistic experience as there was an opportunity to share the Gospel with the patients who were waiting to be consulted, where some of them agreed to accept Jesus Christ as their king and savior.
Dr Stephen Muhumuza, who was the coordinator of the event, said he was pleased with the results of the event. "We are thankful to God for enabling us to do this as Christian doctors affiliated to the RCMDO (Rwanda Christian Medical and Dental Organization)," he said. He added: “We wanted to make it easier for people to get access to the services and get the opportunity to share the gospel to them through healthcare. I thank everyone who contributed to make this medical camp successful. We wish that this event may happen at least twice per year depending on the available means”. One of the residents called MUKANDAYISABYE Josepha who came for treatment appreciated the work of the doctors. She said “I thank these doctors because they came near to provide services to us. For example, they have done surgical operation for me today while it would have required me to take a long
journey going to Kibagabaga Hospital and wait for a long period of appointment. But they have helped me a lot, may God bless them”
